Mike Lorras is an incredible man. His humility, charisma, his tender heart towards people, noble sentiments, the energy he has to make people around him feel good, the strength to support others. He has been an inspiration for us to be better people. My wife, my children, my nephews and sisters love and admire your father very much. He will always be in our hearts and thoughts. My memory of Mike Lorras will always be that of how to be family man, one who cared and provided for his loved ones. One who made you feel a part of his family. My memories of growing up will always include the places, trips and many movies Mike would take the family, Manny and myself to. He knew of good places and how to spend time well and he always wanted to share that with his family. This positive quality amongst others is one that I see he has imparted on Manny. I was remembering how a simple ride in the car plus a burger would make his day. Mike, one of the greatest hearts I was lucky enough to meet. Although I did not have the luck to meet him for as long as I would have liked, I feel that I know him for a lifetime. A person full of generosity and joy that opened the doors of his family to me. Pop is full of life, full of giving, with a generous heart he embraced all of us as kids, took us bowling, ice skating, the movies and countless activities I cannot recall at the moment. I remember as spring rolled in we would help him plant the Mums that both he and Ruth enjoyed. Get the gardens ready for the colorful blooms to come. Many times he would task Manny and I with grilling the steaks and sternly remind us not to burn them, we never did. He would often come to us boys and provide us with guidance and a path as to how we should behave. many of which reverberate in my head to this day. Pop is simply the example and standard of what a parent/ role model should be. For all of us, your dad has been the grandfather that we never had. All the memories all the trips we had together will always be in our heart. We will never forget his generosity! We will never forget our first time skiing, our first time skating on ice, our first roller blades, all the donuts he used to bring us for breakfast and the ice cream we shared. Every time we speak about him, our hearts smile and bring us the most beautiful moments we shared together. Mike is an incredibly sweet, funny, caring and gentle soul. One of my favourite memories with him is when he sang Greek Easter tunes and spun colored eggs. I remember he said he would sing but “didn’t want anybody laughing.” Another of my favourite memories with him is when we went to a new Italian restaurant for brunch. I asked him what he wanted to eat and he firmly said, “pizza.” So I went on to give him the options and said, “okay, so there’s Margarita, or meat lovers...” to which he interrupted and adamantly said, (while shaking his head as though I clearly wasn’t understanding), “no... no... pizza.” I love that he is always making people laugh with his funny and loveable character, and I also love his true love for food. Even with two teeth he still managed to enjoy his favorites such as steak, burgers, and of course, pizza. Mike’s warm, respectful and gentle presence makes everyone around him feel comfortable and welcome. He often invited my siblings out to eat even after only just meeting them. This is just one example of his genuine, sweet character. I feel very lucky to have met and gotten to know a man like him. Your Dad is and always will be a huge part of my childhood memories. All the countless days and nights we spent hanging out at your house, or going to all kinds of outings, parks, movies, restaurants... Your dad always treated us like we were one his own kids.
